Story
After listening to the Happy Place podcast with LeAnn Rimes, something she said stuck with me. The idea of the religious story of the forbidden fruit and how it could have shaped our societal expectations of women being "good girls".
In the Biblical story, Eve ate the fruit, and she was deemed to be the one who brought sin into the world. There is a good chance that this influenced how many people perceive and judge women right from the 'beginning of time'.
I looked a little more into this and found the term 'Good Girl Syndrome'. which often stems from childhood, where we had to appease those around us (people pleasing and not listening to our needs) to be loved and feel safe. Putting first our caregiver's/ society's projections of who we should be to be valuable.
This made me think about a book I read last year 'Fix the System, Not the Women' by Laura Bates (which I found incredible). Specifically, the focus of slogans on babies' clothing tells them who they can be right from their first item of clothing.
